The Hyatt Regency Jersey city boasts fantastic views of New York City. Since I was in the area after a one day layover at home from the OWMD and a stay at the Hyatt 48 Lex, I thought I’d stop by the Hyatt Regency Jersey City for a quick one night stay. As a Hyatt Diamond member on a negotiated rate the Diamond treatment was nice even if it was for less than 8 hours.

This hotel is prepared for late arrivals as I was greeted by at least two bellman who offered to help with my bags. I was checked in by a young man who has stayed at as many or more Hyatt’s than I have. We briefly chatted about our favorite properties including the Park Hyatt’s in Paris, Buenos Aires, DC, the Andaz properties and the few Carribbean properties in Aruba, Curacao and Trinidad. I have to say the Curacao and Trinidad properties have been on our list for a while and it was nice to hear how much he liked them.

After our chat about Hyatt properties the Diamond amenities were explained. I was provided as a Diamond member an upgrade to a city view room, free wifi, a coupon for free breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and complimentary in room water. Unlike the Hyatt 48 Lex’s gift card, this breakfast was covered by a restaurant specific breakfast coupon that expired on the day of check-out. I left too early to be able to use the breakfast certificate.

The hotel is located in Jersey City on the Hudson River and directly across from lower Manhattan. The hotel requires 15,000 points per night or you can expect to pay rates from the high $190s to the high $270s depending on the day and rate code. The main entrance is at water level and where you can feel the ocean breeze, which isn’t always a good thing on a very cold night. This hotel is popular for weddings because of the proximity and views of Manhattan. A quick Path train or ferry ride will get you to Manhattan in a few minutes or you can enjoy the view from your bedroom window.

As a diamond member on a negotiated rate, I was upgraded to a city view room. The room was located at the very end of the hallway on a mid tier floor. Complimentary waters were provided for the room since the property does not have a regency club. The furnishings were in good shape and the room felt very clean.

While short, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. They upgraded me to a room with a view and offered all of the required Diamond member benefits. If you’re objective is to stay near lower Manhattan and price is an issue (Andaz 5th avenue), this could be a good Hyatt option. I still prefer Hyatt’s with a lounge and look forward to checking out the Grand Hyatt in the near future since it’s $130 million renovation.
