Ok, I can use a little help here. It is not that often I ask for help here but thought I could really use it this time. It is late in the game and I could use some help on a car rental booking.

I have a need for a 3 day rental in the coming weeks and don’t know what the best deal is currently. We are heading down south and need to rent a car for the least amount of dollars or points that earns the most amount of miles. We need your help!

In the past I’ve rented cars with a Avis that earned 3,000 US Airways miles, used Chase points for cheap car rentals when prices were high, and even exchanged cars everyday of the trip to earn 5,000 bonus miles per day with Budget car rental.

This is different. I need a consecutive day car rental that maximizes savings and points earnings. I will be looking into resources over the next few days but thought the best resource is our Points, Miles & Martinis readers. I have tons points and miles from just about any program, so just about any mile earning point or cash saving tip will do.

So if you have a money saving car rental tip or a point earning pointer, please share the details in a comment. We will be eternally grateful and we’ll all learn something along the way.

Happy New Year and look forward to the discussion.

  1. I most often use the southwest.com website, using their special offer codes which are also on their website. Their prices are almost always lower than those of competing sites, including other airline sites with their codes.

  2. Try priceline at the last minute to see if you can snag a good deal. Thanks for sharing your tips.

  3. I would check Chase Ult Rewds site first for pricing, then use carrentalsavers.com and autoslaah.com for comparison

  4. If you are renting during a weekend, Enterprise offers $10/day deal. Use the Chase Sapphire card to earn 2 points per $ spent.

  5. For maximizing points, use the 9k Club Carlson points on Avis for a three day rental. I’m happy to pay the extra couple of bucks for 9000 Club Carlson points!

  6. Just did a search for a five-day car rental:
    Kayak $167
    Argus $167
Southwest Hertz $231 (receive 1200 bonus pts)
    Chase UR shopping portal $280
    autoslash no cars available
    carrentalsavers no cars available

  7. Hi Jenny – thank you very much. At this point looks like I’m going to use either ThankYou Points or Chase Points (only 9,400 for 3 day rental). Will check again before making the booking to be sure.
