Get 50% Bonus With Amtrak On Purchased Points

This post may contain affiliate links from our advertising partners, such as American Express. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here.

From now through June 30, 2014, members can get up to a 50% bonus when they purchase Amtrak points.

The bonus is capped at the ability to purchase only 10,000 points and the bonus amount depends on how many points you buy.

How To Purchase Miles

Get 50 Percent Bonus With Amtrak

That means, if you max out this promotion, you can get a total of 15,000 points (10,000 purchased + 5,000 bonus) for only $275. That brings the cost of the points down to $0.0183 per point.

Uses Of Points

The one-way Acela First Class train ticket starts at only 12,000 points. You can read my First Class Acela Train Ride trip report here.

Plus, you can also redeem the points with partners, although this isn’t the best value.

Promotion Details

  • Purchase between May 15, 2014 and June 30, 2014
  • Total of 10,000 bonus points in a calendar year

Terms And Conditions

Transactions must be completed between 12:01 AM ET May 15, 2014 and 11:59 PM ET June 30, 2014 to be eligible for bonus points. Points may only be purchased online and not through the Service Center. Points will be posted to your Amtrak Guest Rewards account within 72 hours after your transaction is complete. Members may buy or receive up to a total of 10,000 points in a calendar year (Select Executive members have no annual limit). Purchased points do not count toward Select, Select Plus or Select Executive status. Transactions are final and non-refundable. Offer limited to member and member number addressed in this communication. All other terms and conditions of the Amtrak Guest Rewards program apply.

Bottom Line

You can sometimes save on the price of tickets by using points that you purchased through large bonus offers like this instead of just buying a ticket. If you have an upcoming train ride you’d like to take or like the price of these points, consider purchasing through this promotion.

Um, unless I’m missing something, Amtrak’s standard coach class one-ways in the Northeast are 4,000 points, Acela First Class is 12,000.
