American Express announced it is opening a smaller format lounge in the Seattle-Tacoma airport in 2015 called The Centurion Studio. According to the press release it will be a “retreat for Card Members but in a smaller space, featuring some of the amenities Card Members say are most essential: comfortable seating, charging stations, fast and free WiFi, and complimentary healthy snacks and beverages.”
The press release didn’t go into very much detail or address important issues such as where the lounge would be located, what quarter of 2015 the lounge would open, or any renderings of what a smaller lounge could look like.
American Express has been increasing its lounge presence in airports in the USA in 2014 with the opening of Centurion Lounges in LGA and SFO, and currently has a Centurion Lounge set for MIA in 2015.
Bottom Line:
While this lounge sounds like a good addition to the American Express portfolio of lounges, there are quite a few lounge options in the SEA airport including a large Delta SkyClub, the Alaska Board Room on the D concourse and a United Club on the A concourse. It also sounds like the smaller format is a way to lower customer expectations away from the generous offerings of hot food at the larger American Express Centurion Lounges.
I think they should have went the whole way with this as this is not so different from the average priority pass lounge
