A $250 million dollar construction project will begin Friday on the the four parallel runways at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The project, which will increase the size of safety buffers on the ends of the runway and repairs to the concrete landing strips, will be completed in 2017 with with additional airfield maintenance work continuing through 2018.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The good news: “The In-N-Out (at Sepulveda and Westchester) will not be affected,â€Â  Mark Visjelia, head of runway construction told the Daily Breeze. IMG_1383 The bad news: the ongoing construction is going to force the closure of each runway one at a time, and that passengers could experience delays on departures and landings, especially during bad weather. The Daily Breeze also said that “Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) officials said they would have a better idea of how the phased closings will impact operations once they go into effect.”Screen Shot 2015-03-05 at 4.42.30 PM

Bottom Line:

This is going to be a long project – lasting over three years.  As airport officials are warning, there could be departure and arrival delays especially during bad weather, but luckily operations will be “business as usual” at the popular In-And-Out Burger located just off the airport property.

  1. “departure and arrival delays especially during bad weather”

We rarely have bad weather in Southern California. Unless you count getting below 65 f.
