Are you getting better AmEx Offers because you are a travel writer? When I see your posts about the new offers you get, I always go check my AmEx account right away. I never have the same good offers. I get offers for places I never shop like Sears or FTD or 5Guys.
Today the offers I see for places I would use – like the current Williams Sonoma or Home Depot , they are not discounts but double points.
I would absolutely use an Office Depot discount like the one you got but I don’t get useful offers like that.
