Delta Air Lines has quietly increased their Same Day Confirm and Same Day Standby fees. Previously these fees were $50 per person, and as of March 15th, 2017 they are now $75 per person. However, Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members can still utilize both of these options free of charge.

Delta’s Same Day Confirm Policy:

Silver Medallion members, general SkyMiles members and non-members:

  • $75 USD Same-Day Change Fee – If your requested flight is same-day confirmed eligible
  • Applicable Change Fee -These fees vary based on your ticket and its fare rules, and will be due if you have a restricted fare and your requested flight is outside of same-day travel eligibility. Change fees are dictated by the fare rules.

Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members:

  • $75 USD Same-Day Confirmed Fee Waived – If the requested flight is same-day confirmed eligible the fee will be waived.
  • Applicable Change Fee – These fees vary based on your ticket and its fare rules, and will be due if you have a restricted fare and your requested flight is outside of same-day travel eligibility. Change fees are dictated by the fare rules.

Delta’s Same Day Standby Policy:

Silver Medallion members, general SkyMiles members and non-members:

  • $75 USD Standby Fee – Standby fee will be collected, but your card will not be charged until you are assigned a seat on the standby flight

Diamond, Platinum and Gold Medallion members:

  • $75 USD Standby Fee Waived

With both of these options, Basic Economy (E) fares are not eligible.

Delta First Class

Bottom Line

I can’t say I’m surprised by this fee increase, considering that both United charges $75 for same day changes and American also charges $75 so it was only a matter of time until Delta matched their fee to align with the competition.

Did you know you can avoid same day confirm/standby fees if your confirmed flight has a posted delay of 15 minutes or more by being able to rebook yourself online or on their app. Check out this feature the next time your flight is delayed.
