When it comes to airport lounges, we’ve seen new amenities being added such as outdoor terraces such as the ones at the Delta Sky Deck at the Terminal 4 Sky Club at JFK and Terminal F Sky Club at ATL, or the hot tub at the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at LHR.
However, it’s been announced that the new VIP Lounge at Punta Cana opening later this year will feature an outdoor swimming pool.
When it comes to access, it appears that this is the VIP Lounge Terminal BÂ that is under renovation, as the Priority Pass site shows this lounge closed till December, so considering that both the VIP Lounge Punta Cana Terminal A and the VIP Lounge Terminal BÂ are already part of the Priority Pass network, I have a good feeling that this new VIP Lounge with be as well.
Per the Caribbean Journal,
The Dominican Republic’s newest VIP lounge is about to set a new standard for airports anywhere. The new VIP lounge opening at Punta Cana International Airport in December will have its own panoramic outdoor swimming pool. The pool has been designed by leading Dominican architect Antonio Segundo Imbert.
It’s the latest update for an airport that has seen significant improvements in recent years, from the addition of a new terminal building to the construction of a second airstrip. It will be the first airport in the Caribbean to have a pool in its VIP lounge.
The airport is also set to add US customs and immigration pre-clearance.
Bottom Line
I haven’t seen an outdoor swimming pool in any airport lounge before, so this is pretty awesome! I could see getting to the airport much earlier than normal to spend some time hanging by this pool with insane tarmac views.
I think a swimming pool is the coolest airport lounge amenity I’ve seen, but feel free to share below your favorites!
interesting but dumb idea…nothing like swimming with the smell of AVfuel thick in the air, and getting dry and changed before catching your flight seems like more effort than it’s worth…stay at the resort a little longer and then head to the airport….duh
