Apparently earlier this morning, Sony was having a MAJOR price break (mistake) on their a7R camera which normally sells for $2,299 as it was being offered for just $199 at the Sony Store.
PMM reader Tyler alerted us to this deal, unfortunately by the time he did the deal was already over which is why didn’t post this earlier.
After doing some research, Imaging Resource reports on the full story:  For a short time this morning, Sony’s A7r camera was accidentally set to a ridiculously low price of $199.99 across several retailers, roughly 90% off the retail price of $1,898.
Discovered and shared by Reddit user kapziel, the error remained for some time, present both on Sony’s online store and its Amazon store. It wasn’t long before the A7r was no longer showing up on Sony’s stores at all, but not before a handful of photographers attempted to take advantage of the accidental offer.
Some Reddit commenters said they had successfully placed an order, however, most were wary as to whether or not Sony would eat the loss for the mistake or cancel the orders. Others attempted to take advantage of Best Buy’s price matching, but to no avail.
The price is back to the correct price on Amazon and it appears that the camera has been pulled from the Sony site currently.
Bottom Line
What are your thoughts on this deal and others on whether or not they should be honored. Had you have seen this earlier would of bought it just to buy it?
Feel free to share your thoughts below.Â
Why not? What does Sony have to lose….. Just honor the deal
Posted prices are just “offers to treat” and do not constitute contracts for sale. So, I’d expect Sony not to honor the price if it was indeed an error.
I like the product a lot of sony.
Be easily purchased and quality.
