I just received an email from the St. Regis Monarch Beach encouraging me to redeem my Starpoints at their property for stays from now through March 31, 2016, with an added incentive to use points vs. paying for the room outright.
The hotel is offering some added perks for redeeming Starpoints here including the following:
- Waived resort fee
- 50% discount on parking
- $25 daily food and beverage credit
For those wondering, this is a SPG Category 6 meaning it will cost you 20,000 to 25,000 Starpoints for a free night. However, taking a look at a random night in November the options are $295 per night or 20,000 Starpoints, meaning if you were to redeem you would be look at a a 1.475 cents value per Starpoint, which is not the greatest.
Bottom Line
Personally, I find it quite interesting that the St. Regis Monarch Beach is enticing SPG members to redeem their points here vs. paying for the stays. I know SPG properties get reimbursed from Starwood the Average Daily Rate if they have a certain level of occupancy vs. a much smaller amount if they aren’t at that level, so the St. Regis must be thinking of some new ways to get to that increased occupancy level.
Know any other SPG properties that offer added benefits for those who redeem points? Feel free to comment below.
Noticed this on their page, but did not look into if further.
“Public Space Renovation: November 3, 2015 – March 31, 2016”
Probably available through other channels for a lot less than $295.
