When it comes to aircraft evacuations at airports, we’ve heard of many reasons why planes have been evacuated, however the latest is one I’ve never heard of before. Apparently an American Airlines plane at Raleigh-Durham International Airport was evacuated upon landing after a passenger farted causing other passengers to become ill with nausea and headaches.
Based on my recent experience with the meals American has been serving in First, makes me wonder if the onboard meal was to blame. Whatever the reason, it caused for a smelly flight!
Per the Charlotte Observer,
A person who “passed gas†on an American Airlines plane on Sunday afternoon forced all passengers off the jet, officials said.
The flight, which was not identified by RDU officials, landed at the airport around 4 p.m. after passengers became ill with nausea and headaches, according to a spokesperson with Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
All the passengers were taken off the plane. After the incident was investigated, it was determined that a passenger “passed gas,†the official said.
Authorities later said that the incident was a “medical call†and directed all questions to Wake County EMS.
Update as of 7/17: American Airlines has confirmed this incident was not true, and that the smell was caused by a mechanical issue.
Just as well smoking, and more importantly lighters and matches, are banned from flights!!!!
What brand of beans had he been eating?
Glad I fly BA
Because people who fly BA have lilac scented farts. Everyone knows that.
