There are reports here and here, that United and US Airways are in merger talks.

Apparently the discussions have been going on for two weeks and any annoucement wouldn’t be for another few weeks.  The deal would create the country’s second largest carrier behind Delta Airlines.  Back in 08 the two carriers were in discussions to merger as well as United and Continental.  This will be an interesting discussion on Flyertalk.
