Many of the stores are now in “rollover” gift mode -handing out $2 credits, so I wouldn’t suggest buying things that you don’t want anyway. Slickdeals has a whole forum on this promotion.
It should also be noted that no purchase is necessary. I entered with 10 index cards and for the cost of 10 stamps got over $135 in gift cards and over $60 in statement credits. Too bad if they’re already dishing out prizes from the rollover categories.
