I received a notice via snail mail today that the Hyatt credit card will be offering 50% more points for everyday purchases between July 1 – August 31. Use of the card at Hyatt properties will yield 3.5 points per dollar. There is no indication that this deal is targeted.
The bottom line
I obviously own this card and will joyfully continue to pay the 75USD annual fee for the benefit of a free category 4 night per year. In fact, I love that this card encourages my yearly trip to the Andaz West Hollywood to party like a rockstar. For everyday purchases that are not travel or dining, I will shift my credit card spend from my Chase Sapphire to the Hyatt card for the next 2 months, barring a better offer of course 😉

Here’s my question. For everyday purchases that don’t earn more, I’d started using my United Explorer or United Club card, which earns 1.5 per dollar for “everything else”.
So what’s more valuable – 1.5 United miles per dollar or 1.5 Hyatt points per dollar?

@Kathy – I value Hyatt points and United miles nearly identical at 2 cents per point/mile. In this case I am going with Hyatt to participate in the promotional offer in hopes more participants will mean more offers in the future!
With Chase Freedom at 5% for dining for this time frame I see this as a better deal. I then move my UR points from Freedom over to my Sapphire Preferred which can transfer to Hyatt….
I just received my Hyatt credit, after successfully applying for it only two days ago. Any idea if this offer will apply to me? If so, I know which card I’ll be using for high street spend for the rest of the month.
