The time is now to start thinking about Summer tickets to Europe if you are in the market. One of the newest and most promising options to hop across the pond is from LOT, the Polish carrier, on their new 787 Dreamliner. I flew long-haul on the Dreamliner this month on Japan Airlines and was very pleased with the aircraft.
LOT features fully flat Business Class seats on their Dreamliner. In the summer from the US, they have the Dreamliner scheduled on the Chicago to Warsaw route, as well as JFK. A one way Business Class award ticket would run 50,000 points on United/Ultimate Rewards.
The good news is that availability over the summer is wide open for 2 business class seats from Chicago to Warsaw. I took a look at connections from Warsaw and most European cities seem pretty painless.
The bad news is that the return route, which I am looking for, is completely blank.
I have my flights to Budapest for the Hungarian Formula One race this year and would love to use this product on the return. I am hoping this space is just an anomaly and that space eventually opens up in both directions but you never know. In either case, this is an excellent opportunity to get (one way) to Europe this summer in style.
Hello from canada, please confirm if you also go to Spa as, i think both races are in a week distance. Which hotel will you stay in hongaria ?
Would you go with the LOT 787 business class over the new Austrian business class? Both seem to have good availability to Europe. Thanks!
bump
@Daniel – While Spa is incredibly tempting, I have to limit myself to one race per year. I am still working on the lodging situation in Budapest.
@Brad – If I had to choose one I would try LOT first because it is on the 787. Both have lie flats and the Austrian seats look like they might have a slight advantage but the invisible benefits of the new breed of airplanes (787 and A380) such as air pressurization, quality and noise tip the scale to LOT for me.
Did you ever find LOT availability from Europe? I’m going *next* year and figure I should start looking for award flights now 🙂
