The Marriott New York East Side is located on the Lexington between 49th and 48th street, just north of the Hyatt 48 Lex. While just next door, the Marriott is worlds away from the Hyatt 48 Lex. It’s 629 rooms is gives the opposite feel from the small loft style of the Hyatt. At a category 7 in the Marriott program, this hotel requires 35,000 points per night. As a Gold or Platinum member, you can expect to receive access to the club lounge with open air access to the New York Skyline. It’s a safe bet for a business traveler needing quick access to midtown.
Marriott Superior Corner Room
I was a Gold member during this stay, which has benefits worth keeping Gold status. My stay at this hotel would be part of my 9 stays I needed to earn Marriott Platinum status after only 9 stays. Marriott does not guarantee suite upgrades to elite members, but one thing is does have is consistency. The hotel upgraded me to a corner superior room and gave me access to the club lounge where I received complimentary breakfast. The linens, beds and overall feel of this Marriott is that of any typical Marriott within the chain.
My room was located to the right off the elevator and at the end of the hall.
The room had a very small entrance foyer which broke up the bathroom from the bedroom and seating area.
The bathroom is a typical Marriott bathroom with the standard amenities. Nothing special like a Splash Bathroom at the Andaz 5th Avenue, but again, you’ll know what to expect with Marriott properties.
The room had a great little seating area with television and desk overlooking Lexington Avenue. As a business traveler, it is nice to have the extra space.
The bed was comfy and reminded me of any typical Marriott bedroom I’ve stayed at this year.
The room was located on a high floor which helped remove any noise from traffic below.
Club Lounge
The Marriott club lounge is the best argument to maintain Marriott Gold status. I’ve yet to run across a Marriott hotel without a club lounge and Gold members receive complimentary access for snacks and breakfast. Have you seen any Marriott hotels without a club lounge?
The offerings are typical breakfast items including fruit, pastries, and hot items like eggs.
I went for the scrambled eggs with salami and a plate of pastries with cheese. I added a little Tabasco sauce to spice up my breakfast and day. Most Marriott club lounges offer the little Tabasco bottles which are great for eggs or curing the common congestion by downing all by themselves. Variety is the spice of life after all 🙂
The best thing this Marriott has going for it is the location and the rooftop club lounge. The club lounge opens directly out onto a rooftop seating area with views of the city.
Bottom Line
The Marriott East Side hotel in New York City is in a convenient location and you can expect the typical Marriott experience. If you are a Gold or Platinum member at Marriott, don’t miss the club lounge rooftop terrace for a good views of the city with breakfast.

“I’ve yet to run across a Marriott hotel without a club lounge”
Try the San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf. No lounge. It’s OK for me though as they give Gold & Plat full buffet breakfast including option for cooked to order eggs if you prefer.
I’m staying at this Marriott this weekend(1/4-6). Booked a “Cozy King w/parking.” I’m hoping for a gold upgrade, although I will try for a plat challenge today. Lotta Marriott stays in the foreseeable future. I have Hilton Diamond status too. Also The Frenchman’s Reef Marriott in STT has no club lounge, but you do get free bkfst. I think most of their resort properties have no club lounge. Bummer.
OK our (wife+me) stay at this property was good. The contact we had with the staff-valet, bellmen, desk and concierge was pleasant and efficient. They did upgrade our room to a superior similar to the one above. The parking option was a deal and we saved I believe, $25/day with a GMC Acadia. The concierge lounge is closed all weekend until Sunday night, so we couldn’t get to the terrace. I was very disappointed about that. Also, that meant there was no complimentary bottled water available, but I mentioned this to the front desk and they gave me a liter bottle of Evian, which was nice. This hotel is in a great location and I think I like it better than the Marriott Marquis on Times Square-less hustle and bustle.
Great read. Good post!
