Southwest has launched a new promotion in which they are offering 1000 bonus points per flight into 5 new Southwest destinations including the tradition-breaking destination of San Juan. Southwest has only served the lower 48 up until this point. All 5 of these routes are really just former AirTran flights transitioning into Southwest flights.
“Southwest service to Charlotte, Flint, Portland (Maine), Rochester, and San Juan begins April 14, 2013!
To celebrate, we’ve created a special promotion for travel into or out of these new Southwest destinations. Earn 1,000 Rapid Rewards® Bonus Points on every one-way flight you book through Southwest Airlines to any of these five new destinations and complete by August 1, 2013. These bonus points are in addition to the standard points you already receive for your flight. Check out the chart below to see how your points can add up quickly with this promotion.
To take advantage of this promotion:
- Register between March 14, 2013 and August 1, 2013.
- Book a flight through Southwest Airlines® to any of the five new Southwest destinations (Charlotte, Flint, Portland (Maine), Rochester, and San Juan) between March 14, 2013 and August 1, 2013.

The bottom line
Whether you plan to travel to these destinations or not, I would certainly sign up now just in case as it takes two seconds when logged into your account and you need to sign up before booking travel.
tried a dummy booking to san juan for april 30 and the Southwest site kicked me over to Airtran site?……
@jethro – Hmmmm, I was able to get to the final booking page selecting a random flight on April 30th (Flight #5223 BWI-SJU). Not sure what you are seeing.
thanks for the reply Alex……I can see BWI-SJU as bookable. I was trying to fly out of IND. Still directs me to airtran site for that destination. IDK!
