The new Hyatt in midtown Atlanta is targeting July to opens it’s doors. The hotel is now accepting reservations for arrivals starting July 10, 2013. The new hotel will open as a Haytt category 3 and will require 12,000 points for a one night award stay.

A quick check of weekend rates shows rates in the high ~$180 range. This is a premium over the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead which has a fantastic club lounge. The midtown property may be worth the premium given the proximity to activities in midtown.

The hotel has 194 hotel ro0ms including junior suites and a presidential suite. It wasn’t clear how many junior suites this hotel has, but if you use points to upgrade a paid stay, book a Hyatt Gold Passport Suite award, or use free suite night certificates from the Hyatt credit card, you’ll have access to a two-room 465 square foot junior suite.

I was able to confirm the progress is coming along well during a happy hour and dinner last month at the next door restaurant, Empire State South. The hotel’s exterior has been completely refurbished and the entire inside of this former Hotel Midtown is promised to have been completely renovated as well.

Bottom Line

The new Hyatt hotel in midtown Atlanta expands Hyatt’s Atlanta metro area footprint beyond downtown and buckhead. This hotel is certainly in a prime location and given it’s relatively low category, may be a good value on a paid stay or award night.

  1. It’s interesting that the rates for the hotel are so high on the weekends. I wouldn’t be suprised if that comes down some after the hotel opens, given that so many of the hotels downtown and in Midtown are relatively cheap on the weekends (you can find rates for $100 pretty often)
