Now through December 31, 2013 Starwood is offering up to a 25% discount on purchased Starpoints. The bonus is a hard-coded so there is no need to register as well as a tiered structure, meaning the more you buy the higher the bonus.

The discount is as follows:

• 500-4,500 Starpoints — N/A
• 5,000-12,500 Starpoints — Save 20%
• 13,000-20,000 Starpoints — Save 25%

Normally Starpoints cost 3.5 cents each, however if you purchased 13,000-20,000 points you would be paying 2.625 cents per Starpoint.

As a reminder, Starpoint purchases can be made by members whose accounts have been active for a minimum of 14 days. Accounts that are less than the required 14 days in age will have the purchase attempt cancelled. Members may purchase up to 20,000 per account per calendar year; points are applicable toward all Starpoint awards but do not count toward elite status.

Bottom Line

I would not just purchase Starpoints without a specific redemption in mind, however if you are close and need a few more than this could be a good way to get them.
