Southwest announced this morning its new nonstop service from Dallas Love Field once the Wright Amendment ends in October.
Currently with the Wright Amendment Southwest is only allowed to fly to nine states near Texas, but with its repeal that will be changing.
They will begin serving five new nonstop destinations on October 13, followed by ten more nonstop destinations on November 2 (for a total of 15 new nonstop destinations by November 2).
Beginning October 13, 2014, Southwest will offer nonstop(s) to the following from Dallas Love Field:
- Baltimore/Washington (BWI)
- Denver (DEN)
- Las Vegas (LAS)
- Orlando (MCO)
- Chicago (MDW)
Beginning November 2, 2014, Southwest will offer nonstop(s) to the following from Dallas Love Field:
- Atlanta (ATL)
- Nashville (BNA)
- Reagan National (DCA)
- Ft. Lauderdale (FLL)
- Los Angeles (LAX)
- New York LaGuardia (LGA)
- Phoenix (PHX)
- San Diego (SAN)
- Orange County (SNA)
- Tampa Bay (TPA)
Bottom Line
I think more competition in Dallas is great for the customer since there will be price competition which could result in some lower fares from the other airlines such as American.
