Now through February 17, 2014, United Airlines is offering a bonus on purchased United miles. This is a tiered bonus meaning the more miles you buy the more you’ll receive.

Here’s how the bonus structure is set up:

• Buy 15,000-39,000 miles and receive a 25% discount
• Buy 40,000 miles or more and receive a 40% discount

This promotion is hard coded through the United site meaning there is no need to register to take advantage of it.

Purchased miles can take up to 48 hours to post to your account, so keep that in mind if you were looking to book an award right after. Also United limits purchased miles to 150,000 miles per year and these miles must be purchased in 1,000 mile increments.

Bottom Line

If you were to buy 40,000 miles, the price for those would come out to $903.00 meaning you would be buying them at a cost of 2.25 cents per mile.

Depending on the type of award you wanted to redeem for, it may or may not be worth it. I wouldn’t buy these miles just to get them, but if you are within reach to a desired award then it might be worth it.
