It’s March 31, 2014, which means US Airways officially joined oneworld meaning that you can now book US Airways award tickets with British Airways Avios.
The great thing about British Airways Avios redemptions are that they are distance based.
When it comes to domestic redemptions one of the sweet spots is short distance awards which only require 4,500 avios each-way.
- Flights between 0-650 miles cost ONLY 4,500 Avios.
- Flights between 650 miles-1150 miles cost 7,500 Avios
- Flights between 1,151 miles-2,000 miles cost 10,000 Avios
- Flights between 2,001-3,000 miles one-way cost 12,500 Avios.
Below are some example British Airways awards on US Airways:
Phoenix-Denver: 4,500 Avios each way
Washington DC (DCA)-New York (LGA): 4,500 Avios each way
Charlotte -Orlando: 4,500 Avios each way
Philadelphia -Toronto: 4,500 Avios each way
Another great domestic award using British Airways Avios is from certain west coast cities to Hawaii for 12,500 Avios each way.
Phoenix -Honolulu: 12,500 Avios each way
Bottom Line
If you have any upcoming flights, be sure to consider using British Airways avios for their distance based awards on US Airways.
Also as a reminder, British Airways Avios is a 1:1 transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards.

I have had difficulty finding AA (and now USA) flights on BA’s site to use my Avios. Availability has been VERY limited as, most often, I get the dreaded “There are no flights available” (though AA or USA DOES have flights available).
OAK-PHX and SMF-PHX are just short of 650 miles, FPO-CLT Freeport in the Bahamas is less than 650 as well.
It does look like US Airways has been officially loaded. All thought NYC to CLT routes for example have a ton of flights but spotty availability, Ugh. Previously you did very well on this route for reward miles.
