Earlier this year, Delta announced they would be switching to a revenue based SkyMiles program, and one of the first steps in this process was that you must now meet a minimum amount of spending in addition to flying the required amount of Medallion Qualifying Miles.
Delta Medallion Qualifying Dollars Waiver
The threshold for spending is:
- Silver – $2,500 MQDs
- Gold – $5,000 MQDs
- Platinum – $7,500 MQDs
- Diamond – $12,500 MQDs
However, if you spend $25,000 on any Delta American Express card, then you are exempt from this spending requirement.
Well, I have been spending a bunch on my Delta Platinum American Express, and I finally reached the 25,000 mark, so when I logged into my account, I was pleased to see that the I had earned the MQD Waiver. In addition, I had also earned 10,000 MQM’s from spending 25,000 on this card.

I’m impressed that you have 67,553 MQM on $485 spend! Other bonus MQMs beside the 10K from Amex? Rollover?
@KJ, 43,000 MQM’s were rollover and 10,000 from MQM boost!
Do you know if purchases of Amex gift cards using a Delta Reserve credit card count towards the $25k amount?
When buying those gift cards through a portal, then using them to make estimated tax payments, you still end up ahead.
