After a dust up last week between American Airlines and Orbitz, American airlines plans to return to selling fares through Orbitz.

It was pretty clear that American was putting the squeeze on Orbitz for lower fees. Most telling is that their statement reads they no longer plan to pull Us airways fees from the booking site.

American’s Statement:

American Airlines Group Inc. announced that American Airlines fares will return to Orbitz on Friday after the companies earlier today entered into a letter of intent.

American Airlines Group also no longer plans to remove US Airways fares from Orbitz on Sept. 1 as previously announced. The companies are working toward final agreements based on the letter of intent.

All tickets previously purchased through Orbitz and other Orbitz-powered websites remain valid for travel. Customers who want to change reservations bought through Orbitz should call Orbitz to make those changes.

After all, Orbitz needs American much more than American needs Orbitz. And if Orbitz had lost US Airways in addition to American, well then they would have been marginalized as a place to shop for fares.
