Here’s another great chance to be charitable while also earning miles for donating money to help fight breast cancer. During the month of October, donate at least $25 to Miles for a Cure and you’ll earn 20 AAdvantage miles for every dollar you give. Learn more at here.

*Each donor can earn a maximum of 60,000 miles in a twelve-month period. For charitable deduction purposes, each mile is valued at 2.75 cents per mile if fewer than 6,000 miles are awarded and 2.5 cents per mile if 6,000 or more miles are awarded.

Here’s what American’s website says about Miles for the Cure, “American’s Miles for the Cure® program raises funds to support a study of inflammatory breast cancer (the most lethal form of the disease) through a research grant at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Miles for the cure awards customers AAdvantage miles for every dollar they contribute to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.”

It’s great to be charitable and to donate to causes that are close to your heart. This is a great opportunity to support breast cancer research while also getting a little benefit for yourself! Make sure to put your AAdvantage number in to get the 20 miles/$ donated.

This statement seems important: For charitable deduction purposes, each mile is valued at 2.75 cents per mile if fewer than 6,000 miles are awarded and 2.5 cents per mile if 6,000 or more miles are awarded. So if I donate $250 and receive 50,000 does this mean I would be receiving a benefit of $1,350 in the eyes of the tax? That’s a big hit.
