Last week, I wrote about how there were some great fares on Etihad for $178 to Abu Dhabi and even more cities as well. This was a mistake fare on Etihad’s part and bookable on Orbitz, so there was no guarantee that the airline had to honor them.
Etihad Honoring $178 Mistake Fares to Abu Dhabi
However there is good news if you got in on this deal.
Per the Forbes article, Etihad Airways says it will honor the deep discount tickets it mistakenly issued on Christmas morning.
The carrier, based in the United Arab Emirates, issued an undisclosed number of tickets for prices that ranged as low as $187 for flights between New York’s Kennedy International Airport and Abu Dhabi.
With connecting flights to destinations such as Johannesburg and Manila, some airfares were as low as $277.
“A system filing issue caused ticket prices for a promotion in the USA to be temporarily listed incorrectly,” said Etihad spokeswoman Katie Connell on Sunday. “The issue has since been rectified. Etihad Airways will honor these fares.”
Connell said she could not immediately say how many tickets were issued at the sharply reduced levels.
A Forbes story by Grant Martin on Saturday said that thousands of tickets were issued after airfare monitoring sites including TheFlightDeal, FlyerTalk and SlickDealsshared the news, as did numerous bloggers who write about frequent flier points and airfares.
Bottom Line
You never know with mistake fares if they will be honored, but I’m glad to see that this one will be honored.
Did you score any great deals? Where are you headed?
