New Year’s Eve celebrations start in just about 24 hours, and many public transit systems across the USA are offering extended hours and free rides to kick off a safe and happy new year. Chicago: (from Fox32Chicago): Chicago revelers can once again enjoy free rides on the CTA from 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 4 a.m. New Year’s Day — and they won’t even need to carry a Ventra card during those hours, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
For the third year in a row, Miller Lite is picking up the tab for all CTA bus and rail rides during those designated hours. Riders can enjoy tap-free and cash-free transit during “Miller Lite Free Rides†hours.
Los Angeles: In keeping with tradition, Metro will offer free rides on the night of New Year’s Eve. No fare will be charged on Metro Rail and Bus lines from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, until 2 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1. Please note: free fares will only apply until 2 a.m. Those boarding buses and trains after 2 a.m. will need to TAP to ride. Fare is $1.75 with two hours of free transfers.
Portland: (from the PDX Pipeline) All service is free after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31, so getting to your celebration—and home again—will be safe and easy. Buses, Portland Streetcar, and WES Commuter Rail will run on regular weekday schedules. MAX will run on regular weekday schedules with extended late-night service.
Milwaukee: (from TMJ4 Milwaukee) Miller Lite, the Milwaukee County Transit System and Waukesha Metro Transit are teaming up to provide free bus service in Milwaukee and Waukesha for New Year’s Eve.
The service starts on all MCTS bus routes at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and on all Waukesha Metro routes at 7 p.m.
San Mateo County: (from The Daily Journal) New Year’s Eve revelers in San Mateo County can enjoy the night and get home for free safely on public transit, SamTrans officials said.
Free rides on all SamTrans bus lines will begin at 8 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The service on New Year’s Eve will be the same as the service on regular, non-school days, SamTrans officials said.
Tempe, Arizona: (from RailLife.com) The Tempe Block Party is back and METRO is once again teaming up with Coors Light to bring us FREE light rail rides to the festivities. Here’s some info from their recent press release. Have fun, for FREE!
Everyone likes a free ride, right? Well, thanks to Coors Light, New Year’s Eve Party Goers will get a free ride on the light rail cars after 7pm.
