Winter Weather Waivers Up For Last Minute Holiday Travel

Wintery weather is forecasted in the MidWest over the next 24 hours, and rain, fog and low cloud ceilings are delaying flights in the MidAtlantic, leaving last minute holiday travelers with massive delays and cancellations.  According to flightstats.com, 563 flights have been cancelled today with another 7,529 delayed today in the United States.Screen Shot 2014-12-23 at 7.13.55 PMA number of airlines have put up winter weather waivers in advance of the December 24th holiday rush, and here are their plans:

American Airlines

Due to weather in the Midwest U.S., American Airlines offers the following flexibility options to our ticketed customers whose travel may be impacted by this event. Customers ticketed to travel on AA*/US flights to/from/through the airports listed below may change flights as shown below.

If you are traveling to, through or from:

  • Bloomington, IL (BMI)
  • Champaign, IL (CMI)
  • Chicago O’Hare, IL (ORD)
  • Detroit, MI (DTW)
  • Grand Rapids, MI (GRR)
  • Milwaukee, WI (MKE)
  • Peoria, IL (PIA)
  • Springfield, IL (SPI)
  • St. Louis, MO (STL)

On the following dates: December 24, 2014
And your ticket was issued no later than: December 23, 2014
You may travel: December 23-25, 2014
Original inventory required? No
Origin/Destination/Stopover Changes allowed? No

The ticket reissue charge will be waived for one ticket change.

JetBlue

Due to inclement weather forecasted to impact the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, we will waive change/cancel fees and fare differences for customers traveling to/from/through the destinations listed below, on Wednesday, December 24, 2014:

  • Baltimore, MD (BWI)
  • Boston, MA (BOS)
  • Buffalo, NY (BUF)
  • Burlington, VT (BTV)
  • Hartford, CT (BDL)
  • Newark, NJ (EWR)
  • Newburgh, NY (SWF)
  • New York, NY (JFK)
  • New York, NY (LGA)
  • Philadelphia, PA (PHL)
  • Pittsburgh, PA (PIT)
  • Portland, ME (PWM)
  • Providence, RI (PVD)
  • Rochester, NY (ROC)
  • Syracuse, NY (SYR)
  • Washington, DC (DCA)
  • Washington, DC (IAD)
  • Westchester County, NY (HPN)
  • Worcester, MA (ORH)

Customers may rebook travel through Thursday, December 25, 2014 prior to the departure of their originally scheduled flight. Customers with cancelled flights may opt for a refund.

Original travel must have been booked on or before Monday, December 22, 2014.

Southwest

Chicago Weather Based on the forecasted wintry weather conditions in Chicago Midway (MDW), our scheduled service on Wednesday, December 24 may be disrupted (delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled flights).

Customers holding reservations for travel to/from/through MDW from 12:00 p.m. CT through the close of business on December 24 are eligible to reschedule their flights in accordance with our accommodation procedures.

United

Airports:

  • Chicago, IL (ORD)
  • Detroit, MI (DTW)
  • Grand Rapids, MI (GRR)
  • Madison, WI (MSN)
  • Milwaukee, WI (MKE)

Original Travel Dates:
December 24, 2014 – December 25, 2014 – Changing to earlier or later flights is allowed.

Flight Changes:

  • When rescheduled travel commences by December 25, 2014, change fees and fare differences will be waived.
  • Travel may be rescheduled in any fare class, same cabin.
  • For all other dates and ticket uses, the change fee will be waived, but a difference in fare may apply.

Bottom Line:

As always, check with your airline on-line for the latest flight status.  Airlines always encourage you to re-book yourself over the web, but if you call, be prepared for longer than normal wait times to talk to an agent.​
