Gary brings up an important question. How much exactly does a Delta upgrade cost?
Last week Delta removed their award charts and now it seems they can do what they’d like with YOUR SkyMiles.
I actually very recently redeemed MY Delta SkyMiles for an award upgrade on a paid ticket. It was surprisingly easy. But how much was it?
Delta Upgrade Cost
I was able to upgrade a domestic coach itinerary for only 12,500 miles per ticket.
Granted, I’m a Platinum member, but when traveling with family it is not always easy to secure an upgrade for everyone on the itinerary. So a few days before the flight I was able to call up Delta and spend 12,500 of my hard earned miles to upgrade a cheap coach fare.
Bottom Line
Delta has removed their award chart. I think their move was not customer friendly and lacks transparency.
But you can still redeem your SkyMiles for upgrades. At least for now, they cost only 12,500 each way to upgrade from domestic coach to domestic First Class.
Have you used this redemption option lately? How much did it cost you?
What a delightfully worthless post…
“A cheap fare” is not upgradeable. K+ fares are, and those are usually a couple hundred more than the cheapest couch tickets EACH WAY.
It was implied but not specified that the upgrade price was for the whole itinerary, which was presumably round trip. If so, even with a medium priced set of flights, not an awful deal. It’s unclear if you didn’t use cheap fares due to lack of availability, or that cheap fares are not eligible for upgrade at this price in miles.
