Last month, we wrote about how Starwood announced that they would be adjusting their hotel categories for 2015 which will go into effect on March 10, 2015, meaning that if you want to book the hotels at the cheaper prices, you have until Tuesday to book at the old prices.
Last Chance to book SPG Hotels at Lower Categories
The Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas, Beaver Creek Mountain is moving down a category.
While 10.49% hotels are moving up in category, 11,78% are down including the The Westin Riverfront Mountain Villas, Beaver Creek Mountain, W Paris – Opera, and the St. Regis Rome.
As a reminder, Just over 22% of hotels are changing category; of these, 10.49% are moving up and 11.78% are moving down including some favorites such as The St. Regis Rome, The Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas, Maui, W Paris – Opera, and others. We’re not adding new categories or changing category pricing at this time. Here’s a look at the preliminary list of changes to help you maximize your Starpoints. Please review the changes to decide if you’d like to redeem your Starpoints prior to – or after – the changes take place on March 10, 2015.

Be sure to book the Phoenician, as a Category 5, before it increases to a Category 6 on Tuesday.
Bottom Line
You still have until Tuesday, March 10, 2015 to book the hotels at the lower rates. If there is a hotel that is decreasing in category, you can either wait until Wednesday to book, or you can book it now and SPG will refund the difference of points, once it decreases.
