Delta has implemented a lot of changes this past year. One of the most important draws for the business traveler and leisure has been the ability to obtain a complimentary upgrade to First Class. So, it’s good to see that elite benefits remains, even if they are becoming harder to come by.
Delta Upgrades Happen
On this Monday morning business traveler flight, a few upgrades happened at the gate, commonly referred to as the gate lottery. Three people were upgraded…out of a total of 74 on the upgrade list. That’s less than a 5% upgrade chance for those on the list – not that that percentage means anything.
What’s more important is how do you get on the list and how do you move to the top. The ranking on the list is a combination of status, check-in time, Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express or Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express cardholder status and fare paid among other factors.
Bottom Line
There have been a number of negative changes to the Delta Sky Miles program this past year. But it’s great to see the complimentary upgrades remain a valued benefit. I for one, along with 2 others valued this benefit greatly on this Monday morning as I took my seat in First Class!
