Hot Escapes eh?!? They should try marketing to the Rohingya I hear they’re trying to escape!
I just stayed there last month. The hotel looks nice, but I would not recommend a stay there. First it is an hour cab ride away from the main part of Phuket. You will have a $60 round trip taxi ride every time you want to go downtown. Second of all everything in this hotel is way over priced for Thailand. They keep finding ways to nickel and dime you for extra money. Small things at first, but they add up. For example as an SPG Gold member I get a discount on all food and non-alcoholic drinks. At this resort they would put food on sale so it was excluded from this discount. I have never had this happen at any other SPG property. I love Thailand and Phuket. Also for SPG members they apply your benefits in strange ways. Our room upgrades were only available for one room. Not because the rooms were not available, but because I was only entitled to one upgrade. Every other hotel we stayed at in Thailand upgraded all three rooms we had. Also they would only allow one room to have late checkout. Again it was not because of availability but because my SPG benefits only applied to the room I was staying in. At the end of our stay we had to dispute about $200 in charges with the front desk. Where I was informed that the problem was due to me not speaking Thai. Which is interesting because I am fluent in Thai. I would recommend someone looking to stay at an SPG property in Phuket Thailand choose the La Meridian over the Westin. The La Meridian is a nicer hotel the service is amazing and it is located in the part of Phuket you want to stay in.
