*Updated to add: Comfort Plus will become a W fare class, and Gold Medallions will get 4 confirmed upgrades a year to Comfort Plus, and Silvers will get 2 confirmed upgrades a year to Comfort Plus. At this time, there are no changes to Diamonds/Platinums when it comes to Comfort Plus*
There has been a lot of discussion over the past few months about Comfort Plus on Delta. Most recently, Delta Air Line has begun to sell upgrades to Comfort Plus onboard all of its flights after takeoff and above 10,000 feet. Delta has also announced that they are creating dividers between the Main Cabin and Comfort Plus to distinguish it as its own cabin.
Currently the only way to choose Comfort Plus is when you select your seat, however that is soon going to change. Delta plans on rolling Comfort Plus as its own fare, so when you search for a flight, you’ll now have an option of either Main Cabin, Basic Economy (on select routes), Comfort Plus and First/Business Class.
With this new fare class, will come changes to upgrades for Medallions. Presently, Diamond and Platinum Medallions can select Comfort Plus seats at booking, Gold Medallions 3 days out, and Silver Medallions 1 day out. It’s unclear what the changes will be, however I’m guessing it will be similar to how First Class upgrades work now and how you’ll have to request them and there will be an upgrade list.
With these changes to Comfort Plus Upgrades, there is always that fear that Delta will be changing First Class upgrades for Medallions. There is no word that Medallion upgrades will be changing, however that could be something that Delta will be announcing soon.
Be on the lookout for an official announcement from Delta about the new Comfort Plus changes sometime this week. In the meantime, enjoy your Comfort Plus upgrades.
American already gave me executive-platinum because of my Delta diamond status. If Delta goes down the worse case scenario here then I’m gone. While I understand some business travelers likely have issues getting first-class seats because of company restrictions that require them to purchase the cheapest available airfare, this will be a huge mistake for Delta.
if you choose a comfort plus fare will you get bonus MQMs???
if they take away complimentary seats to Diamonds and Platinums that will not be taken well.

Hmmm…. maybe I was too hasty in rooting for Delta in the DL vs. AS war.
