American Airlines announced today that they would be expanding their Los Angeles service, with new non-stop service between the City of Angels and Hong Kong. The new service is expected to begin September 7, 2016 pending regulatory approval, and will be operated onboard a Boeing 777-300ER
You’ll recall that American Airlines launched several new routes from Los Angeles earlier this year including Seattle, Portland, and Anchorage.
Per American Airlines,
American Airlines is giving its customers more access to Asia, connecting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).
“We announced new domestic Los Angeles routes at the end of January, and customers let us know they wanted more great service to even more destinations,” said Andrew Nocella, chief marketing officer for American Airlines. “This route connects customers in Los Angeles with one of the world’s most important business markets and provides convenient connections to important business and leisure destinations across the Pacific.”
American’s new Los Angeles-Hong Kong service will be operated as part of our joint business with Japan Airlines.
Bottom Line
I’m thrilled about American’s latest announcement on their Hong Kong service and can’t wait to see what else they will continue add from Los Angeles.
With Americnan’s latest route announcement from Los Angeles, it will be interesting to see how the competition responds.
Good for one world but why not have ajoint flight with cathay since hkg is thier hub? jal doesn’t fly to hkg from lax? Does it make sense?
