One of my favorite parts of traveling these days is being selected for TSA Pre-Check, and the easiest way to get TSA Pre-Check is to be an elite flyer with an airline and to opt-in or by receiving Global Entry reimbursed through your credit card.
However, Alaska Airlines is an offering a way for Mileage Plan members to use their miles to redeem for this benefit.
For a limited time, we’re offering you the opportunity to redeem your miles for 5 years of hassle-free travel through TSA PreCheck, the program that offers expedited security when you fly, making your whole experience more convenient and efficient.
The TSA PreCheck application fee is normally $85, but through April 30, 2016, you can redeem 10,000 miles to cover this cost.
Here’s how it works:
- Email TSAredemption@alaskaair.com with your name and Mileage Plan™ number.
- Within 72 hours, we will deduct 10,000 miles from your account and send you an email with your authorization code.
- Apply for TSA PreCheck® and schedule your screening appointment.
Be sure to take along your printed email and proof of citizenship status. The authorization code in the email will cover the application fee at your TSA PreCheck screening appointment.
Bottom Line
I’m a huge fan of TSA-Precheck, and think this is an awesome idea on Alaska’s part. When it comes to value, it’s not the best value for their miles, but still I like how it’s a new innovative way to use your miles.
I’m sure other airlines will follow suit. What are your thoughts on this latest redemption option?
