Looks like Starbucks has joined up with Lyft as announced in this press release. Looks like you can now purchase Lyft gift cards at participating Starbucks stores and when you do so, you will get a free $5 Starbucks gift card! When you ride Lyft you can also earn Starbucks Stars during your morning commute, in addition to more benefits of the partnership as outlined below. If you haven’t signed up for Lyft yet, you can also do so via my referral and get $50 in free ride credit.

The Deal 

Customers using Lyft for the first time, will receive 125 Stars (which Gold members can redeem for a free food or beverage item) after linking their Starbucks Rewards and Lyft accounts. Rewards members will then receive 5 Stars for each additional ride taken during their morning commutes, Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m*. These offers are valid through November 9, 2016. Also starting today, Starbucks customers can purchase $20 Lyft gift cards when visiting a participating Starbucks store, and as an added benefit, will receive a complimentary $5 Starbucks Card with their purchase**.

* Offer valid 08/09/16 – 11/09/2016. To earn Stars, rides must be taken between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. local time, during the offer period. Limited to one qualifying ride per hour. Limited time only, while supplies last. SEATTLE, July 22, 2015 – Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq: SBUX) and Lyft, one of the nation’s leading transportation network companies, today announced a new, multi-year deal that will increase value for current customers, attract new customers, reward Lyft drivers and explore a transportation benefit for Starbucks partners (employees). All Lyft drivers will have the option of becoming My Starbucks Rewards® (MSR) loyalty program gold level members, and both Lyft drivers and riders will have the opportunity to earn MSR loyalty Stars redeemable for food and beverages at participating Starbucks® stores.  The alliance builds on what is fast becoming the retail sector’s robust digital loyalty ecosystem enabling both Starbucks and Lyft to engage with partners, Lyft drivers and both companies’ customers in new and meaningful ways.

Bottom Line

This is certainly an interesting partnership but, it looks to only go through 11/09/2016 as of right now. If you are interested in the gift card deal, you might want to head to Starbucks soon as it says that the free $5 is for a limited time. If you haven’t signed up for Lyft yet, you can also do so via my referral and get $50 in free ride credit.
