The airlines are facing a historic moment: direct flights from the United States to Cuba. United Airlines announced that it will begin nonstop service to Havana, Cuba from Newark Liberty International Airport starting November 29.
This comes as relations between the U.S. and Cuba thaw.
“I’m incredibly proud of all the dedicated aviation professionals here at United who are working hard to get our historic Cuba service ready for takeoff in November,” said Oscar Munoz, United’s CEO. “The final approval by the DOT reaffirms that our flights will ensure better choice, convenience and competition for all travelers on this important route, and I want to thank the DOT for their decision.”
Bottom Line
United Airlines says it will also offer direct routes from Houston, Texas. Both routes will be flown using Boeing’s 737 aircraft. The company said customers can begin booking flights to Cuba on United.com.
