Great news from Delta with a new benefit for Delta Silver Medallions when it comes to upgrade. The airline has made a positive change to their Medallion and will now be allowing Silver Medallions to be upgraded on award tickets starting today. As a reminder, Silver Medallion status can be earned after earning 25,000 MQMs
Previously, upgrades on award travel with Delta were limited to Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion members only.
Per Delta’s site:
Starting October 10, 2016, Silver Medallion Members are eligible for Complimentary Upgrades to First Class on Award Travel, 24 hours prior to departure.
As a reminder, members are eligible for Complimentary Upgrades to Delta Comfort+ on:
– all flights within the U.S. 50 and Canada
– flights within select Asia Pacific markets and select Latin America / Caribbean regions
For flights within Latin America / Caribbean markets serviced with our Delta One™ product and select Asia Pacific markets, including China and Hong Kong, and other markets such as translatlantic flights, Medallion members will continue to upgrade to Delta Comfort+ via the seat map.
Bottom Line
This is an extremely positive change by Delta as it has little impact on higher level elites. Silvers will be eligible for upgrades on award tickets, after all higher level Medallions are cleared.
