Northeast Winter Weather Waivers by Airline

Do you have a flight booked this weekend and are worried about the impending weather in the Northeast?

Here is what you can do if you have a flight and it is affected my the winter storms that are set to move over from the Midwest. The ice and blizzard conditions are sure to impact your travel this weekend, so here is information about travel waivers to change your flights should you need to.

A number of airlines have put up winter weather waivers in advance of the the holiday rush, and here are their plans:

According to The Weather Channel,

Delta has issued a weather waiver for the following cities, if you’re flying to/from or through December 17 -18, 2016:

Albany, NY (ALB)
Allentown, PA (ABE)
Binghamton, NY (BGM)
Boston, MA (BOS)
Burlington, VT (BTV)
Elmira, NY (ELM)
Harrisburg, PA (MDT)
Hartford, CT (BDL)
Ithaca, NY (ITH)
Manchester, NH (MHT)
Newburgh, NY (SWF)
Newark, NJ (EWR)
New York, NY (JFK, John F Kennedy)
New York, NY (LGA, LaGuardia)
Philadelphia, PA (PHL)
Portland, ME (PWM)
Providence, RI (PVD)
Rochester, NY (ROC)
Scranton, PA (AVP)
Syracuse, NY (SYR)
White Plains, NY (HPN)

When rescheduled travel occurs beyond December 21, 2016, the change fee will be waived. However, a difference in fare may apply. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity, one year from date of original issue. If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original ticket issuance. Applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity.

American Airlines

When severe weather or other uncontrollable events impact your flight and travel dates, you may be able to change your trip with no change fee.

The change fee may be waived if you:

  • Are traveling on an American Airlines
  • Bought your ticket by December 16, 2016
  • Are scheduled to travel December 17 – 18, 2016
  • Can travel December 16 – 22, 2016
  • Don’t change your origin or destination city
  • Rebook in same class or pay the difference

Southwest

Based on the forecasted wintry weather conditions, our scheduled service on Friday, December 16, thru Sunday, December 18, may be disrupted (flights may be delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled) in several cities:

Customers who are holding reservations on Friday, December 16, thru Sunday, December 18, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

United

United has issued a waiver for the following:

Flight Changes:

  • The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new flights departing on or before December 21, 2016, as long as travel is rescheduled in the same cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed.Bottom Line:

As always, check with your airline on-line for the latest flight status.  Airlines always encourage you to re-book yourself over the web, but if you call, be prepared for longer than normal wait times to talk to an agent.
