As 2017 kicks off as we start fresh on our journey to earn elite status again, some Delta Medallions may find a nice surprise in their email informing them of a higher status than what they earned last year.
While nothing is officially posted, it does seem that Delta is offering higher level status to select Medallions who were close to making a higher tier Medallion status and were short MQMs or MQDs to qualify.
Thanks to one of our readers who shared that he officially earned Silver Medallion status, but had enough MQMs for Gold Medallion, but was short on MQDs for the status. He was sent an email informing him that he had been upgraded to Gold Medallion Status for 2017.
Bottom Line
While I assume most Medallions will be pleased to receive news that they’ve been bumped up to a higher Medallion level status, there may be instances where Medallions were trying to remain short of a higher tier status in order to rollover MQMs for the next year.
In addition, Delta is offering their Elevate Your Status promotion, so I imagine there could be some Medallions who purchased MQMs only to find out they didn’t need to as they’ve been comped a higher status anyways. If either of these cases apply, I’d reach out to Delta to see how they will handle these scenarios.
Hat Tip: PM&M Reader Mark
Where you upgraded to a higher tier Medallion status for 2017? Feel free to share below!
Hope they are not giving PM to GMs, and DM to PMs….
Gold and silver are pretty worthless, if you want upgrades. I think your only regular chance at an upgrade would be the most random of route or short, commuter flights on a CRJ. Otherwise, your only real chance is Saturdays, Sundays, Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas Day. As a diamond, who earned his status, I’d be mad if I discovered they were giving diamond status out.
