When it comes to upgrades, Delta offers a generous upgrade policy for Medallions, offering unlimited complimentary upgrades on most domestic routes. We recently wrote about how upgrades will now clear 40 minutes prior at the gate, and how gate agents will be more likely to move you up on the plane. More good news follows, this time in regards to companion upgrades.
There’s more great news to come for Delta Medallions, as starting today, April 6, companions traveling in the same reservationas a Medallion member will be eligible for complimentary upgrades on the following ticket types:
- Award Tickets
- Miles + Cash tickets
- Pay with Miles tickets
- AMEX Companion Certificates

This is great news as companions will now be upgraded on virtually every type of ticket (exception for E fares), as long as they are in the same reservation as the Medallion. Better yet, the companions will clear at the same priority as the Medallion member.
Feel free to share comment below your thoughts on the latest change for Delta Medallions.
So happy to see companion passes now eligible for upgrade! Just added C+ and First upgrade requests for my ATLSEA companion pass later this summer!
So awesome!!! Now upgrade lists can get longer! WOW!! How is anyone excited about this?! Upgrades have been 100% impossible…all routes, even as a Platinum. LAX-DFW..not anymore… DFW-SLC… 1/10. ATL – ANYWHERE 0/like 50
Why do people get excited about something they can’t redeem?
I have 4 RUCs listed right now on 4 different flights with empty first class cabins. On one of the flights i get an offer to upgrade for only $129!! DELTA WILL SO LITERALLY ANYTHING TO KEEP YOU FROM BEING UPGRADED!!! They will sell dirt cheap upgrades to anyone before you ever see yourself in first or a companion. You have to buy first now.. this is classic bait and switch. Reel you in then make you realize you got NOTHIN
Ryan is absolutely right!!! Delta is giving the sleeves out of their vests. Also, pretty insensitive to announcement marketing changes when they are completely out of control in Atlanta due to a heavy line of thunderstorms (its sping in the South) two days ago – flights, crew, website, apps, phone lines – nothing works, but they announce a marketing gimmick.
