Delta Air Lines has increased their baggage fees for customers ticketed on and after Sept. 19, 2018, where the first checked bag fee is now $30, and a second checked bag is $40.

It’s clear the airline is following in United Airlines footsteps, as we shared earlier this month how United Airlines Is Now Charging $30 for First Bag, a play they took from JetBlue Airways who raised fees last month.

Delta shared with us the following details:

For customers ticketed on and after Sept. 19, 2018, a U.S. Domestic $30 and $40 fee for first and second checked bags respectively may apply.

Delta offers a variety of optional products and services and routinely makes fee adjustments, yet there are several ways for a customer to check a bag with Delta without paying a fee:

  • Active members of the U.S. military traveling on orders or for personal travel.
  • Attain any level of SkyMiles Medallion Status, starting with Silver.
  • Book your flight with an eligible Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express.
  • Fly confirmed in First Class or Delta One.

When it comes to US airlines, the big three which include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines tend to follow each others’ pricing model when it comes to change fees, baggage fees etc. so it’s highly likely that we can expect American Airlines to match this increased fee as early as later this week.

What are your thoughts on Delta raising their first checked baggage fee to $30? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
