Marriott Platinum status requires 50 nights and Gold requires you stay 25 nights in a year. However, as reported by VFTW, you can call Marriott and ask to sign up for a Platinum Challenge which will get you Platinum after only 16 nights in 3 months or a Gold Challenge which requires 8 nights in 90 days.

- Call Marriott Rewards at 801-468-4000
- Ask for Gold or Platinum Challenge
- If the rep can’t find it you will need to call back and try with a different rep
- They will read you the terms, make sure you take note of those
If you are short on elite status, you should also consider the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from Amex which gives 5 elite qualifying nights, and 2 stay credits just for having the card. The Platinum Card from American Express offers complimentary annual SPG Gold status just for having the card, so that is something else to consider.

You reportedly can only take advantage of this challenge once in 3 years. So, make sure that you choose your timing wisely.
