These changes go into effect Tuesday, March 5, 2019, so make sure that you are all set on any reservations at properties that are going up in category before then.

Marriott’s new loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy has announced their 2019 Category changes, which can be viewed here. With this change, over 375 hotels are changing categories with around 350 increasing and around 35 decreasing in category, overall a big negative when it comes to redemption.

These changes go into effect Tuesday, March 5, 2019, however you can book before then to lock in the lower rates if the hotels you’re considering are going to moving up in category.

There are many properties that will be changing categories as of March 5, 2019. If a hotel that you’r interested in staying is will be going up in category, you’ll want to book before the change to lock in the lower rate.

  1. Why are most hotel/motel categories going up? Seems to me that if you leave them the same or less you would get more business, or is this just another way to get more money from loyal followers.
