Delta Air Lines now lets you “reclaim your Medallion status” should you have lost it due to a major life change. It could be due to one of the following including becoming a parent, including maternity, paternity, adoption or foster leave; recovering from serious illness; sustaining serious injury; changing jobs or careers; caregiving for a family member; or  getting a degree.
How Reclaim My Status works:
When you’re ready to start traveling again, submit your request to get your Medallion Status back. You must meet both of the following basic requirements to be considered:
- You had Medallion Status during the previous Medallion year, but either lost it completely or moved to a lower Tier of Status
- You have documentation to verify a life event occurred which reduced your ability to travel (all life events will be considered)
If your request is approved, you will receive an email letting you know you have been enrolled in Reclaim My Status and returned to Diamond, Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status based on the Medallion Status you enjoyed before. This complimentary Status will last for three months beginning on the date your request is approved.
To extend your Status beyond the complimentary three months, meet the minimum travel and spend thresholds for your Status Tier during the three-month period. Once you meet the thresholds, keep your Status for this Medallion year plus the following Medallion year (until January 31, 2021).
- If you enroll in Reclaim My Status on or before December 31, 2019 and you meet the thresholds, your Medallion Status will be extended through January 31, 2021
- If you enroll in Reclaim My Status between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 and you meet the thresholds, you Medallion Status will be extended through January 31, 2022
Bottom Line
It’s nice to see Delta offer this option for those who lost their Medallion status due a major change in their life. If you qualify, you’ll want to head over to the application page, where you can fill out all your information.
However if approved the 3 months will start immediately, so only submit the application when you plan to return to your travels.
With Delta launching this new initiative, you can’t help but wonder if there is a decrease in the number of Medallion members this year, and they’re looking for a way to get some of those members back who may have lost their status.
