Marriott Now Offering Hotel Shuttle Van Tracking via App

Hotel shuttles are a great amenity that most airport hotels offer, however until now there hasn’t been an easy way to know when the next shuttle is coming.

You’d stand outside at the hotel shuttle stop at the airport waiting for your hotel shuttle to show up. If it didn’t come, you might call the hotel who would tell you it’s on the way and should be there soon.

However, things are starting to change thanks to Marriott, who is rolling out a new feature in their Marriott Bonvoy app for hotel shuttle tracking.

Per the Wall Street Journal,

Marriott International, the largest hotelier, is launching shuttle tracking through its app. Already in use at 15 hotels at four airports, with 200 hotels planned by the end of the year, travelers can watch a van icon move along its route and get an estimated arrival time at your stop, just like waiting for your Uber, Lyft or package delivery.

Airport shuttle tracking amounts to a big “it’s about time†for frequent travelers. Hotel companies are playing catch-up on other connected functions, trying to modernize operations through phone apps.

At the Dulles Airport Marriott, the first hotel Marriott used to test its shuttle locator system, calls have dropped 25% to 30% since the tracking began, says General Manager Keith McNeill.

It’s about time that there’s a hotel shuttle tracker, so I’m pleased to see Marriott roll this out in their app. In order to use, you must have an upcoming reservation at the specific hotel and then you’ll see it as a feature.

One caveat would be if you book through a third party and the reservation isn’t in your app, then you wouldn’t have access to the feature. I’m not sure why Marriott wouldn’t allow everyone to see the shuttle tracker, but perhaps they’ll change this in the future.

Have you tried out the hotel shuttle tracker yet through the Marriott Bonvoy app? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
