Amazon Go recently opened a new location in New York City on 53rd and Lexington, and having had yet to experience one of their locations, I was excited to check it out. Store hours at Mon–Fri, 6AM–9PM. Sat–Sun, 7AM–7PM.

When you enter the store you need to scan the Amazon Go app, which you can download in the app store. You don’t need to be an Amazon Prime member, however you do have to have an Amazon account.

How do I shop at Amazon Go?

All you need is an Amazon account, the free Amazon Go app, and a recent-generation iPhone or Android phone. You can find the Amazon Go app on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore.

When you arrive, use the app to enter the store, then feel free to put your phone away—you don’t need it to shop. Then just browse and shop like you would at any other store. Once you’re done shopping, you’re on your way. No lines, no checkout.

Bottom Line

As I was there on the weekend, it was pretty quiet when I was there (I was the only person in the store the whole time), however I suspect that during the week this location gets busier.

Despite trying to get sneaky with taking items and put them back, my receipt was completely accurate so if you’re hoping to be able to take items without getting charged, you’re not going to have much luck.

  1. Next time you should ask somebody to hand you something from the shelf and see if you get charged for it
