Poor People’s Medallion Status with SkyMiles Select

Delta has launched their newest program called SkyMiles Select, or as other’s are calling “Poor People’s Medallion Status”. Essentially for those who fly Delta and don’t qualify for Silver Medallion status, you may be interested in paying $59 a year to get Main Cabin 1 boarding as well as a drink each time you fly.

The one thing I will note is that Main Cabin 1 boarding does apply on all fares including Basic Economy, so if you fly Delta basic economy often and want priority boarding all year this could be an option for you.

SkyMiles Select is based on a 12 month period from when you purchase it, so it doesn’t follow a typical calendar year like Medallion status does. It seems like this product is targeting those who travel 3x-4x a year so potentially college students or recent graduates who are just beginning to travel. What I would of liked to have see who have been a refunded fee for those who end up qualifying for Silver Medallion status as a result of SkyMiles Select.

If you’re looking for a better alternative to get Priority Boarding, you might be interested in the See current Credit Card Offers here to earn more miles.
