Several Airlines Issue Northeast Weather Waivers

It may only be November, however for those in the Northeast specifically the NYC and surrounding areas, expect to see possible snow on Sunday into Monday. Due to the forecasted weather, several airlines have issued weather waivers allowing you to change or cancel your flight without penalty.

Here is what you can do if you have a flight and it is affected the snow storm this weekend. As of 6pm ET, American, Delta, and United all have weather waivers in place.

A number of airlines have put up winter weather waivers in advance of the weekend weather so here are those details:

Delta

Delta has issued a weather waiver for the following cities, if you’re flying to/from or through December 1-2, 2019:

Albany, NY (ALB)
Bangor, ME (BGR)
Binghamton, NY (BGM)
Boston, MA (BOS)
Buffalo, NY (BUF)
Burlington, VT (BTV)
Elmira, NY (ELM)
Hardford, CT (BDL)
Ithaca, NY (ITH)
Manchester, NH (MHT)
New York – Kennedy, NY (JFK)
New York – LaGuardia, NY (LGA)
Newark, NJ (EWR)
Newburgh, NY (SWF)
Portland, ME (PWM)
Providence, RI (PVD)
Rochester, NY (ROC)
Scranton, PA (AVP)
State College, PA (SCE)
Syracuse, NY (SYR)
Toronto, Ontario, Canada (YYZ)
White Plains, NY (HPN)

When rescheduled travel occurs beyond December 5, 2019, the change fee will be waived. However, a difference in fare may apply. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity, one year from date of original issue. If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original ticket issuance. Applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity.

  • Are traveling on an American Airlines flight
  • Bought your ticket by November 29, 2019
  • Are scheduled to travel December 1 – 2, 2019
  • Can travel November 29 – December 5, 2019
  • Don’t change your origin or destination city
  • Rebook in the same cabin or pay the difference

United

United has issued a waiver for the following:

Original Travel Dates:

December 1, 2019 – December 2, 2019

Flight Changes:

  • The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing on or before December 6, 2019, as long as travel is rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed. View your reservation and select Change Flight to search for alternate flights.

Bottom Line:

As always, check with your airline on-line for the latest flight status. Airlines always encourage you to re-book yourself over the web, but if you call, be prepared for longer than normal wait times to talk to an agent.
