Uber announced that starting next month, they’ll be changing a popular benefit for Uber Platinum Rewards members. Currently, one of the perks of Platinum status is price protection on a specific route of your choosing.
This could be between your home and office, the airport, a family member’s house etc. It’s a great benefit to have a locked in price, when times are busy and prices are surging, you’re still able to request a ride at your locked in price.
However, things are changing to this perk according to Uber, and it’s being replaced with a less luractive one of extra points on this route instead of a locked in price.
Per Uber, On August 4, the following benefit will be updated:
Price protection on a route will become Favorite route point boost: You’ll now earn 10 reward points for every eligible dollar you spend on UberX rides between the 2 locations you set as your favorites.*
Set up your 2 favorite locations by clicking here. If you’ve already set up your favorite locations, there is no additional action required for you to start accelerating your point earnings.
Bottom Line
It’s disappointing to see a popular Uber Rewards benefit for Platinum members being discontinued and replaced with a lackluster bonus points offer instead.
I’ve never been much of a fan of the Uber Rewards program despite being a Platinum member as I don’t think it adds much value to users. This is just another example to prove my point.
If you somehow manage to Diamond status with Uber you do get access to higher rated drivers and the chance of an upgrade to a nicer car, however neither are guaranteed, so I’m unsure how likely either are in reality.
If you still haven’t tried Uber yet, you can still get a credit towards your first ride here or your credit can be applied to your UberEats order instead.
